Renew your vehicle licence disc before busy year-end period

The City encourages motorists to renew their vehicle licence discs early to avoid the rush ahead of the busy November and December period. Each year, the City’s Customer Interaction Centres experience a significant increase in activity as residents take the opportunity to renew their licence discs and attend to other important business ahead of the end-of-year holiday period.

The City’s vehicle licensing disc renewal process is simple and efficient, and motorists can book their appointments on the City’s website for added convenience. It takes less than a minute to book and receive a reference number. The reference number ensures that motorists are assisted by a dedicated counter at one of our customer offices across the metro, thus reducing the time spent waiting in a queue. Annually, Cape Town motorists receive an SMS with a reminder to renew their motor vehicle licence discs. The reminder contains a link to the online booking system.

‘The City aims to make renewing your licence disc as easy and convenient as possible ahead of the year-end rush.

‘As part of our ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and customer convenience, such as the development of our quick online appointment booking system, the City has also introduced additional innovative options, such as the brand new drive-through licence renewal facility in Brackenfell. The one-of-a-kind service allows motorists to renew their discs from the comfort of their vehicles, in as little as five minutes.

‘Motorists are reminded to visit the brand new Brackenfell drive-through facility to renew their licence discs before the busy festive season. Motorists also receive an SMS notice that contains the reminder to renew as well as a link to the booking system,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.

Brackenfell Vehicle Licence Renewal Drive-Through facility operating times:

The drive-through operates from Mondays to Fridays from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00.

The City, as agents for the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), is working to extend operating hours on weekdays. Once finalised, the new times will be shared with the public. Over the next few months, we will explore additional suitable drive-through facilities and other innovations to make the City the leading licensing and renewal agent.

Only card payments will be accepted at the Brackenfell Vehicle Licence Renewal Drive-Through facility, not cash. Keep an eye out for further innovations and expansion of services over the next year.
